This sphere is carved from dark carboniferous limestone matrix rock enclosing Calcite replaced Orthoceras fossils.  Orthoceras, meaning "straight horn", is an extinct Mollusk with a long cone-shaped chambered shell.  The Orthoceras first appeared in the fossil record around 500 million years ago and went extinct with the dinosaurs around 65 million years ago.

Actual item may differ slightly than the image due to image quality, lightening, Contrasts, resolutions, and many other factors. However, in most cases, actual items look better than the images. There might be slight differences in measurements due to reading errors or scales. Crack Looking lines or other imperfections are very common in these types of products. So, I have listed them one by one for that reason to make sure you look at all images before making the decision to purchase. Sometimes some spheres are not as round, so do expect some imperfections due to they are handmade.
